Closing the Loop on Medical Waste
We need innovators and creative thinkers to help us make a difference in a new way. We’re seeking fresh solutions to a problem that plagues the medical industry: waste.
Calling all innovators
We need novel and creative thinkers to help us make a difference in a new way: by changing the way the medical industry thinks about waste.
Australia’s health sector produces around 43,000 tonnes of medical waste each year. That’s around 7% of the country’s total carbon emissions, and we account for about 7% of that medical waste.
Blood donation and the life-saving work we do relies on single-use plastics.
We need people with big ideas to collaborate with us. You’ll identify and test practical, scalable solutions for recycling our most significant waste streams, particularly saline bags and latex gloves.
Our goal is to improve product circularity and expand recycling pathways back into the supply chain.
This is an exciting opportunity to:
- Develop, build and test scalable circular supply chain prototype solutions
- Find potential strategic partners who can use recycled waste, and
- Develop a cost-benefit profile for each prototype, considering and comparing emissions intensity to current waste management costs.
